Lincoln University will soon be getting a new freshman ladies mentoring program, in the form of Quest II Womanhood.

Founded in the wake of Boyz II Men mentoring program's success, Quest to Womanhood is the brain child of Nashee Pritchett, a 19-year-old Lincoln University sophomore and President of Quest II Womanhood.

"I got the idea for Quest II Womanhood from Boyz II Men Mentoring Program," says Pritchett. "I saw how many of the freshman boys in my class were transformed into young men with goals, and I felt Boyz II Men guided them along their journey and made them better people, leaders and role models," she said. "I felt like Lincoln was in need for something like this for the ladies."

As a result, Womanhood was founded as a sister organization to Boyz to Men. Like their male counterparts, Womanhood will seek to empower and educate young women by fulfilling a need for freshman mentoring programs on Lincoln University's campus.

"I think Lincoln University was in need of an organization that gave structured mentoring to the incoming freshman because most freshmen come into their college experience with a new sense of freedom that they may not be able to handle," says Pritchett.

Womanhood will seek to guide these young women by working together, promoting self respect and respect for others. "It is our duty to guide these young women as they make their transition from a girl to a woman," says Jacqueline Pendergrass, Senator of Womanhood.

Womanhood will reach these young women through a two year focus that entails community involvement, service, sisterhood, etiquette and responsibility, as well as workshops and programs with assigned mentors.

Prospective mentors are expected to be "very diverse, dedicated" women, says Pritchett. "We are expecting Womanhood to become melting pot of diverse women who are moving towards one thing," says Micah Wilson, Founder of Boyz II Men mentoring program.

Potential mentors will have to go through an application and interview process. Upon acceptance, mentors will participate in group community service projects and will be required to dress professionally every Monday and Wednesday.

"Only those who have demonstrated their dedication to excellence will be assigned a mentee," says Pritchett.

In addition to Womanhood, Pritchett is also Queen of Boyz II Men as well a member of Higher Better Movement. However, this does not take away her passion for Womanhood.

"Quest II Womanhood means the world to me," says Pritchett. "It is in itself a representation of my goals and my willingness to support my fellow women and help them to be the best they can be," she says.

Despite all the hard work and commitment, Pritchett feels this is the least she can do to help advance Lincoln University's legacy. As Womanhood's mission statement says, "Our essential goal is to advance the legacy of the first historically black college and teach these young women what it means to be a true Lincoln woman."
