The faculty, administration and certain Lincoln University students are finally getting the appreciation they deserve.

Ms. LU, Brooke Womack, created the 1st Annual Appreciation Ball, which is scheduled to take place this week in the Student Union Building. Many students and faculty signed up to give thanks for that special person that has brought them joy on this campus.

Womack came up with the idea for the ball as part of her platform as Ms. LU. She said that she felt that simply saying "thank you" was just not enough for the people who influence the lives of the LU family everyday.

"Even though a 'thank you' can mean a lot, giving them public appreciation that truly shows their worth and shouting it to the world (or at least the campus) … well you cannot put a price on that," Womack said.

Womack had people interested sign up in the Student Life & Development office yet; they were told not to disclose who they were appreciating. She personally called every person and asked them who the lucky recipient of the award was for and then she called every nominee to personally invite them to the ceremony awards.

Every participant will give a brief speech as to why they decided to honor their person.

"I am appreciating Theresa Lopez who works in the café," says a first semester freshman who asked not to be named. "I have only been at Lincoln one semester and I have noticed how hard she works, and I feel the students do not realize what she goes through everyday, with a smile on her face."

This is the first time a ball is honoring a combination of both faculty and students and Womack expects a sizeable turnout. Tickets are $5 and the nominees will be admitted for free. Dr. Ivory V. Nelson, president of Lincoln University and Dr. William Bynum, Vice President of Student Affairs, are expected to attend.

Dinner will be served (catered by Sodexho) and live music will be played by LU's Orange Crush Marching Band. It should be a night to be appreciated.
