The Super Bowl in the Eyes of an Eagles Fan

This has become an all too familiar feeling for me and other Philadelphia Eagles fans.

Super Bowl 43 between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Arizona Cardinals was not too exciting for me. But hey, as an Eagles fan I have come to feel that way my entire life, with the exception of 2004 when the Birds did the unthinkable and made it to the big game before falling to the New England Patriots 27-24.

What hurt the most was knowing that Philadelphia should have been in that game. It is not a far fetched idea that the Eagles are a better team then the Cardinals. In fact, we even beat both teams convincingly in the regular season. But of course, the only thing that matters is who wins come play off time. I can say that I was satisfied with the end result of last Sunday?s game. In what was thought of as an uneven match up, Arizona made it tough for the Steelers. Not having a rooting interest is not foreign to me and so I adjusted pretty well. I have to admit I was pretty jealous of the Pittsburgh fans, thanks to my father, who dressed up in his Steelers gear, and made matters worse only feeding my disappointment by waving his Terrible Towel in my face. I could just imagine the sight of fans dressed in midnight green, flapping their wings in Tampa.

From the outside looking in, people may think that Philadelphia fans are some of the worst fans and are too hard on our players. Excuse us for wanting our players to be the best and win. Sure, fans of the Cowboys, Steelers, and Patriots among others who can easily frown upon the Philadelphia fan base, but those franchises have a history of winning. The twenty-eight year curse was finally broken this year thanks to the Phillies, but a NFL championship would mean so much more to the city of Philadelphia. As Eagles fans, we put ourselves through this every year. We ride the tide of winning and go crazy with talks of a super bowl trophy only to be disappointed in the end. Five times in the NFC Championship game and only one Super Bowl appearance to show for it. The fact that we come back every year shows that Philadelphia fans are the best in the country.
