Students living in the New Building are expressing outrage after a number of mice were spotted on the first floor of the Apartment-style dormitory.
Tatianna Henderson who lives on the first floor said that she spotted a mouse one morning while she was getting ready for class.
"I saw the mouse run out from an open whole right behind my bed," said Henderson.
Sylvia Rowe, Henderson's roommate, said that she had to remove all of the food from her room because of the growing mice problem.
Given that the dormitory is relatively new, many wonder how a rodent problem has surfaced so quickly. Resident Advisors and Coordinators have been strategizing with the Maintenance and Facilities office on campus to find a way to rectify this problem.
Joe Murphy, who is maintenance operations manager for the physical plant said that exterminators are regularly canvassing the building.
"I have been notified, there is an exterminator on contract, and they keep a log book of any reports of rooms with mice," he said. "The exterminators come to the rooms that have been reported, set traps, and than monitor the traps. That's all that we can do."
Resident Coordinators are asking students to keep all food out of the rooms, and have urged residents to empty the garbage in their rooms as well as in common areas.
