"It's a 1972 structure [and] it has not had any major renovations in 35 years. The systems need to be upgraded and it needs to comply with some modern standards," said Tracy Hunter- Hayes, director of the Langston Hughes Memorial Library.
Students received a memo in their on-campus mailbox announcing the temporary move. Along with this memo, a map has been distributed to help students find the new location with ease. Students can also find these resources on the Lincoln University website.
The 77,000 sq. ft. facility has been compacted into the 5,000 sq. ft. area of the modules. Despite the smaller space size, students and faculty generally seem to be satisfied with the temporary move, though there have been complaints.
"Given the space, this is really, really good," said Hunter-Hayes. "Granted that roughly 200,000 books have not been brought over to the modules, the library is running as smoothly as it ever has. We are utilizing the space more efficiently," he said.
Students will be able to find all locations of resources on the Langston Hughes Memorial Library website along with all additional information pertaining to the relocation. Hours have not been shifted during this temporary move though, "we've added the extended use of "After Hours" on Friday and Saturday, which is 3 pm to 9pm," said. Hunter-Hayes.
In addition, the library has made available 10 computers with a printer during After Hours, a first for the library. Aside from the 10 computers available in room G of circulation, 20 computers are available in M6, and 28 are available in M8. There is also a study area that has seating for 30 and Circulation seats 36.
"Everything a student wants we have gotten. You must have the essentials; which are circ/reverse, access to a copier, and databases," said Hunter-Hayes.
Some essential materials have been brought over from the main building, including reserved books for classroom learning, and "20% of the Reference Collection, including 2006 and 2007 material. The other materials are online. We purchased them when we found out about the move in November," said Hunter Hayes.
