You may have heard her singing recording artist Rihanna's Umbrella (along with fellow Lincoln University artist Abdul Palmer) paired with recording artist Beyonce's hit single Green Light at this past homecoming concert. Adora McCreary received the opportunity to open up the concert by winning the "L.U. Idol" contest sponsored by the Student Government Association (S.G.A). She beat out dozens of fellow students for the title.
Lincoln University's Idol, McCreary, has been singing in church since she can remember.

"Both of my grandparents were pastors" said McCreary, who attributes Gospel music as a heavy influence on her. She credited gospel greats like Kim Burrell and Donnie McClurkin for helping to shape her vocally.

The Homecoming Concert featured recording artist T-Pain, who is famous for his hit singles I'm in Love with a Stripper and Buy You a Drank.

"It was real cool" said McCreary, on the experience of opening up a concert for an artist who, at the time of the concert, had three singles on the Billboard Top 40. "I met him before the concert and he is down to earth," she added.

T-Pain, who uses a studio technique called Audio Tone, often alters the sound of his real voice. "It gets me tight. You never know how they really sound-live," said McCreary. On the other hand, she added that she is happy to see R&B music making a comeback through mainstream male artists like Ne-Yo, J. Holiday, and Mario.

McCreary would like to pursue music as a career.

"I really can't see myself doing anything else. That's all I think about 24-7," she said.

She also credits her family for her drive and determination. "I come from a singing family. They are so supportive of me," she said. She plans on using the dedication instilled in her by her family to become more than just L.U. Idol. Currently she is undecided as a major, but she hopes to pursue a career in music, full-time.
