Ricardo Porres, director of the Burgos, Spain Study Abroad Program recently came back to campus to recruit Lincoln students and students of other HBCUs to participate in the Study Abroad Program in Burgos, Spain.

"Being here at Lincoln is different for me now. I remember coming here initially with one goal in mind: to sell my idea of having students travel and study abroad," he said. "But now I have alumni waiting for me with a reaction of their experiences abroad in Spain," Porres said.

Porres stayed on L.U's campus for three days last month.

Students who participated in the study abroad program in Burgos, Spain during prior semesters were able to reunite and reminisce about their experiences abroad with Porres at a get-together located in The Lincoln House.

"I miss studying abroad. It was an experience of a lifetime. If I had an opportunity to do it again, I'd go for it," said Shelly Aboagye, who studied abroad in Spain in the spring 2007 semester.

Porres departed from Lincoln on November 13th and traveled to New York City to meet with the President of KEI International. Porres is intent on recruiting minority students to study in Burgos, Spain at EDE, Escuela de Espanol, the first language school in Burgos, Spain.

But Porres didn't stop in the Big Apple. While in the States, he met with faculty officials at Clark Atlanta and Morehouse College in Atlanta with regards to future participation in the Burgos Study Abroad Program starting fall of 2008.

Porres had already made an appearance and proposal about the program at neighboring Cheyney University who has also expressed an interest in participating in the program. The first set of students will depart for their study in Burgos, Spain in the fall of 2008.

"My plans are to involve both Lincoln University and Cheyney University together in the program in order to have a more consistent program," said Porres.

Currently Antoinette Paul, a senior and Psychology major, is studying abroad in Burgos, Spain where she is enrolled in Spanish Grammar, Spanish Conversation, and Spanish History courses. Paul recently returned to Burgos, Spain from an excursion in Barcelona, a popular, modern area located in the southern region of Spain.

Next semester, junior and Mass Communications major, Marvin Hickman and sophomore Mary Gary, will continue the tradition as they are both anticipating their travels abroad in Spain.

"I am excited to study in Spain. Ricardo is down to earth," said Hickman.

If anyone is interested in studying abroad or has any questions in reference to studying abroad, please visit the office of International Programs and Services in Lincoln Hall and set up an appointment with Caroline Alley, study abroad peer counselor.
