Frank Lucas played by (Denzel Washington), is a Harlem gangster who is able to support a thriving drug operation in New York and New Jersey. His hustling ultimately makes him over a million dollars a day, selling cocaine to purists in the streets of New York.
Ultimately, Lucus becomes too much for the U.S. government who tries to put him out of business. This epic crime saga is one of the best drug movies to surface since Scarface. Denzel Washington plays a superior role as Lucas who is later brought down by a New Jersey cop named Richie Roberts played by Russell Crowe. Roberts who at the time is the only cop not corrupted, fights day by day in an attempt to shut down Frank Lucas' entire drug operation. During the times of Blue Magic the name for the drug Frank Lucas supplies on the streets of Harlem, Lucus meets other drug lords such as Nick Barnes (Cuba Gooding Jr.) and Tango Idris Elba.
This new flick was very well put together and puts Denzel in line for another Oscar. This is one of his best projects since The Inside Man and Dejvu.
I would rate this movie 4 Lions.

American Gangster reminds me yet again what a versatile actor Russel Crowe is... plus Ridley Scott deftly leads us into loving the bad guy and disliking the good guy only to subtly flip that around by the end of the movie. (Continued…)
