Eric Watson, who is currently a full-time English professor at Mercer County Community College in New Jersey has been hired as an adjunct within the Department of English and Mass Communications.

Watson was offered a full-time position at Lincoln University but declined the job because he wanted to stay closer to his family in South Jersey.

For months, university officials had asked him to reconsider the job offer and he agreed to come on board as a part-time instructor.

"I support the mission of Historically Black Colleges and Universities," said Watson, who was hired to teach an African American Literature course as an adjunct after a full-time faculty member resigned last semester. "Lincoln University has a great historical legacy and I am honored to be affiliated with it even if it's in a limited capacity."

Watson earned his undergraduate degree at Georgetown University, a Masters degree at Columbia University and the University of Massachusetts. He us currently finishing up his dissertation at the University of Massachusetts.

Officials from the Office of Academic Affairs said that they plan to have Watson do some outside consulting work on program assessment as well.

It was unclear how much he is being paid, but students say that they are impressed by his presence on campus.

"He knows Black literature and he is well versed on pop culture issues as well," said Takeisha Johnson, a sophomore. "He is amazing."
