Julia Bond, the wife of Horace Mann Bond, who served as president of Lincoln University from 1945-1957, died over the weekend. She was 99.

Apart from her husband, Julia Bond was an activist in her own right. Born on June 20, 1908, Mrs. Bond received a degree from Fisk University in 1929. Later that year, she married Horace Mann Bond, the prolific educator who became one of the nation's top college presidents.

Mrs. Bond worked for many years at the Atlanta University Library and only retired as a reference librarian in 2000 at the age of 92.

Mrs. Bond is survived by one sister, a daughter, and two sons--one of whom is Julian Bond, the chairman of the NAACP and one of the nation's most respected civil rights leaders.
